“Preventing transmission of sexual diseases can explain a distaste for cheating on a visceral level.”
Certainly, that’s part of it. The other part being that prehistoric man would likely kill his mate if he caught her with another man in the tribe. This would, of course, favor the evolution of women with a strong monogamy instinct, or the skill at hiding an affair – the exact ratio of one to the other depending on men’s own ability to catch cheaters. That’s why jealousy is probably the strongest male emotion.
Thing is, most men today don’t go into a relationship with the intention to cheat. Unfortunately, almost any guy can be driven to cheat by diminishing attraction to his wife/girlfriend, either by her own actions (sexual unavailability, rampant bitchiness, weight gain) or through no fault of her own (aging, the crash after that “new girl” feeling goes away). Women’s best strategy is to find men who can accept the latter, and avoid the former at all costs.

for every male ‘exotic dancer’
theres like 5,000,000 female ones
I told a girl at my recent 20 yr. high school reunion that I work on and off as male exotic dancer. She believed me.
Another girl, the dutiful cockblocker, said “so you daaaaance for gaaaaay guys?” I masterfully answered without missing a beat: “I’m a professional. But it’s mostly bachelorette parties.”
Never underestimate the power of a cool shirt and three drinks.

@bhetti,
An exercise: consider how you have regarded men who’ve become publicly known to be cheaters. not your own husband/boyfriend, but others. What was your esteem, respect, attraction (if any) for him before you were aware of their cheating, compared to after?
for myself, I’ve lost respect for them, with less attraction, to discover they are cheaters. Preselected men are attractive until they actually cheat. I esp. noticed my response to Dr. Handsome Black Cardiac Surgeon. I found myself attracted to him, until I heard that he was a married cheater . Now I think of him as a hapless loser.
